THE
MUSIC
The Piyut Ensemble has been formulating its unique choral style, drawing inspiration from the North African and Middle Eastern traditions of liturgical poetry, synagogue melodies, and a free-ranging search through world music.
Searching for a musical and spiritual expression, that could be described as North African Jewish- Trance Music. The ensemble’s work in the last years was focused on songs that follows the traditional melodies and performance practices of the Tafilalt region of Morocco.

Gradually, the members of the Piyut Ensemble have created their own original, fresh interpretation, based on a rhythmical vibrant circle of multiple voices and intense clapping.

The Ensemble creates a unique polyphonic texture that is rooted in traditional performance practices, while simultaneously challenging its boundaries.
